Apparatus choices must be precise enough for the task, while the method controls risk without preventing useful measurements.

A labelled arrangement must show how each measurement is made and how specific hazards are controlled.

By the end of this lesson, you can:

Choosing instruments

Match range and resolution to the quantity. Use a micrometer for a thin wire, calipers for an external diameter, and a metre rule for larger lengths.

Describe the arrangement

State exactly where instruments are placed and how readings are obtained. A labelled diagram can communicate geometry, electrical connections and reference points efficiently.

Risk and control

Name a specific hazard, state the possible harm and give a practical precaution. For a hot component, allow cooling or handle it with insulated tools; for toppling masses, use a tray and secure the stand.
